Frequently asked questions

What is Paint Protection Film (PPF)?
PPF is a transparent, durable Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) film applied over your vehicle's paint. It absorbs the impact of rock chips, road debris, scratches, bug acids and minor abrasions so they hit the film instead of your paint — keeping the surface looking factory-fresh for years.
How is PPF different from ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a thin chemical layer (microns) that adds gloss and hydrophobic, easy-clean properties but offers almost no physical impact protection. PPF is a thick physical barrier (7.5–12 mil) that actually stops rock chips and scratches. Many owners run both: PPF for protection, a coating on top for shine. Nanolink films already include a hydrophobic top-coat, so a separate coating is optional.
Is PPF visible once installed?
When professionally installed, quality PPF is virtually invisible. Nanolink's ultra-clear films use triple-extrusion technology with no orange-peel texture, so the film disappears into the paint and even enhances depth and gloss.
What does 'self-healing' mean?
The film's elastomeric top layer is designed to flow back to its original shape when exposed to heat. Light swirl marks and fine scratches disappear with warm water, sunlight, or a heat gun — the surface returns to a smooth, glossy finish on its own.
What is HRA™ adhesive?
HRA™ (Highly Repositionable Adhesive) is Nanolink's adhesive technology that lets installers reposition the film during application without leaving stretch marks or lift lines. It bonds cleanly to the paint and removes without residue, giving a flawless, bubble-free result.
What is the GIGACOAT top-coat?
GIGACOAT 3.0 is Nanolink's advanced hydrophobic top-coat featured on all products. It repels water, dirt and grime, resists stains and chemical etching, and keeps the film slick and easy to clean.
How long does PPF last?
Professionally installed quality PPF typically lasts 5 to 15 years depending on the film grade, climate and care. Nanolink warranties range from 5 years (Sport) up to 15 years (Next Gen Polycarb), covering major yellowing, cracking, bubbling and delamination.
Will the film turn yellow over time?
Older films could yellow under UV exposure. Nanolink uses color-stable TPU resin with built-in UV inhibitors and ceramic pigments, so the film resists major yellowing and discoloration for the life of the warranty.
How thick is the film?
Thickness varies by series: Sport and ULTRA Carbon at 7.5 mil, Competition at 10 mil, and Hyper Off Road at 12 mil — among the thickest PPF available — for maximum impact resistance on off-road and high-debris use.
How long does installation take?
A front-end package usually takes one day; a full-vehicle wrap typically takes two to four days. Quality installs require a clean, controlled environment and time for the film to cure, so it shouldn't be rushed.
When can I wash my car after PPF is installed?
Wait about 7 days before washing to let the adhesive fully cure and any installation moisture evaporate. After that, hand washing is best. Tiny water pockets seen right after install are normal and disappear as the film cures.
How do I maintain PPF?
Hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo, avoid harsh solvents and high-pressure jets aimed at film edges, and remove bird droppings or bug residue promptly. The hydrophobic top-coat makes cleaning easy and helps water sheet off.
Can PPF be applied over a ceramic coating?
No — PPF must bond to bare paint, not to a coating. If you want both, the PPF goes on first, then a ceramic coating can be layered on top of the film for extra gloss and slickness.
